About ASU
Marking its first hundred years, Arkansas State University continues to expand in exciting ways.
Curtis Steele
Donald Eugene Steele was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1904 and Barbara Alice Lowe was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1910. The couple met in Hollywood and were married in 1934. Don and "Bobby" had three sons; Richard Eugene Steele, Edward Eugene Steele, and Curtis Eugene Steele, who majored in art and retired after 38 years as a professor of art and chair of the Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University. Richard majored in journalism and became the executive editor of the international edition of an American news magazine, and Edward majored in physics and became a technical systems manager for a major international chemical company. Donald's career spanned 45 years as a chemical lab manager at an oil refinery in El Segundo, California, and he and Bobby always supported the educational, professional, and personal goals of their three sons, each of whom went in distinctly different directions. It is with that background that retired faculty emeritus Curtis Steele wishes to enhance the educational experience of Arkansas State University students through the Donald E. and Barbara L. Steele Visiting Artists and Scholars Endowment.
